About Darren Flanagan
Darren Flanagan was born on July 1, 1970 in New Westminster British Columbia Canada. In 1982 when Darren was 12 years old, he saw the movie E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial directed by Steven Spielberg. He loved it so much that he chose right there and then that he was going to become an independent screenplay writer, an independent film producer, and an independent film director. In July of 1982 Darren made a film at Paul Lake with action figures, and the camera he used was the camera his parents used to film their wedding in 1964 and it had no audio to it. A month later Darren made another film at his parent's house, again with action figures, and with the very same camera. In 1998 when Darren was 28 years old, he started attending film courses, some at The University College of the Caribou (U.C.C.) witch is now Thomson Rivers University (T.R.U.) and some at River Magic Productions. His first film course was The B.C. Film Organization Course witch included the W.I.M.I.S. Safety Course. And both of them included an exam. Darren failed both exams the first time, so he did the two courses again and pasted the W.I.M.I.S. Safety Course exam but failed the film course exam again. So he just did the film course again, and finally passed the film course exam. He has also done a screenplay writing course, and other film courses. In the year 2000, he wrote a screenplay called THE WAR based on World War 2 and it's about six Canadian soldiers that go missing after a big battle with the Germans at one of their bases in a German forest. And it's narrated by one of the six missing Canadian soldiers, who was found by himself by a rescue party. And he has to go to the Major and tell him what happened out there during the big battle with the Germans, and then with the other five missing Canadian soldiers. It took Darren four years to think up the story and two years to write it. And he will shoot THE WAR in the summer of 2022, and show it at the Canadian and International Film Festival. Darren has started writing another screenplay, called Rainbows based on domestic violins of a wife and her child, but Darren had to put it on hold for the time being. But Darren is writing another screenplay called Taken from Earth witch is about alien abduction, but he had to put it on hold as well. But another screenplay he wrote before those two, called Ghost Picture and he hopes to shoot it in the summer of 2024. And show it at the Canadian and International Film Festival. Darren has twenty other screenplays he's going to write when he gets to them. He is also going to adapted same of Eric Wilson's young adult books to screenplay format, and make them into films as well (only after he get's permission from Eric Wilson or his family). Many times Darren has been told that he could not do it, because he was lazy and didn't have any idea how to make a movie. Well, he will prove it to everyone that he can do it, most definitely he will. Darren will become a great screenplay writer, and a great independent film producer, and a great independent film director, and no one will ever stop him. Because he knows he can do it, and that all that matters.
“I have been wanting to get into the filmmaking business for over 30 years, and
I'm not ever going to give it up.”
